We love animals. We devote a lot of our time and resources into rescuing and caring for various animals in Slab City. There are a few dog and cat rescues out here so we focus more on the farm, exotic and wild animals. We do everything we can to make sure they're happy, healthy and live the rest of their days worry free.

Organic Gardening & Agriculture

Rule # 1 about building an oasis - you need plants! The climate in and around our structure is altered largely by the presence of plants. We are using vines, shrubs, succulents and trees to create our own micro-ecosystem which helps cool the area and attract wildlife. We build our own organic soil here as well which helps the plants thrive.

Beekeeping

We ended up with about 100 old bee boxes and frames with the intention of building with them. We did build with them but we also decided to stick one out by some flowers with a half empty soda can near it... now we have bees! Since then we have attracted two more wild swarms and have been learning the ways of the desert beekeeper.

CAMP AUTOMATION & IoT

Tinkering with electronics has gone from a hobby to a formidable tool for homesteading. We are able to use microcontrollers, sensors and software to control a lot of the daily functions around our camp. Having extra help with the more mundane tasks leaves more time for us to build even more and spend more time enjoying it.

Become a Collaborator!

You can help by collaborating on individual projects with us. Acquiring resources is the main obstacle in the way of us doing a lot of the things we want to do here and your contributions can help turn dreams and ideas into a reality. We offer many options for contributing, large and small, and collaborators get exclusive things mailed to them as a thank you.

Base level contributions are anywhere from a few dollars to $50 and can include things like bags of chicken feed or sensors for our automation system.

Gold level contributions are above $50 and enable us to do even greater things like upgrade pumps, solar power and internet connectivity.

Depending on the contribution you make you will recieve a care package from us with RabbitSide swag that only collaborators can get. Each year we will roll out new stuff so you have the opportunity to help more than once and get lots of cool RabbitSide art and collectibles.
